Keyboard shortcuts

Shortcuts work on a computer with a keyboard. They're paused while you're typing in a field. Press ? in Yellowbird to see them at any time, or choose Keyboard shortcuts from the account menu. Buttons that have a shortcut show it when you hover over them.

In a list

These also work on the conversation you have open.

  • j and k: next and previous conversation. With a conversation open, these open the next or previous one.
  • Enter or o: open the highlighted conversation
  • x: tick or untick the highlighted conversation
  • e: archive, on paid plans
  • #: move to Trash
  • s: snooze, in Inbox, Archive and your own folders
  • v: move to a folder, on paid plans
  • b: block (see below)
  • ⇧ I: mark read
  • ⇧ U: mark unread

Once you've ticked conversations with x, e, #, b, ⇧ I and ⇧ U act on all of them instead of the highlighted one. j and k still move the highlight.

What b blocks

b acts on the latest message from someone else in the conversation, and always asks before blocking. Press Enter to confirm.

  • Mail to an alias from someone unexpected: blocks that sender's domain on the alias, like the leak warning does. Everyone else can still reach you there.
  • Mail to an alias from the company you gave it to: blocks the alias, so nobody can reach you there any more. The question names the alias so you know what you're stopping. You can unblock it from Aliases.
  • Mail to your real address: blocks the sender, the same as blocking them in Screening, and moves the conversation to Blocked.
  • Mail we couldn't verify: moves only this email to Blocked. The sender isn't blocked, because we can't be sure who sent it.

b does nothing on custom aliases, or in Sent, Drafts and Trash.

In a conversation

  • u: back to the list
  • r: reply
  • a: reply all
  • f: forward

In Screening

  • j and k: next and previous sender
  • y: approve
  • t: just this email
  • b: block. There's no question here, since z undoes it.
  • z: undo the last decision
