Folders, storage and trash

Folders

  • Inbox: mail to your aliases, and mail from approved senders
  • Snoozed: conversations you've put aside for later. It only shows when something is snoozed.
  • Screening: new senders to your real address. See Screening.
  • Sent and Drafts
  • Archive: on paid plans only
  • Your own folders: on paid plans only. See below.
  • Blocked: mail from senders you've blocked
  • Trash

Your own folders

On a paid plan you can make up to 50 folders of your own, like "Receipts" or "Travel". Each works like Archive: a place to move conversations out of your inbox. A conversation is in one folder at a time, so a folder isn't a label.

  • Making one: in Settings → Folders, or choose Move to… on a conversation, then New folder…. That makes the folder and moves the conversation into it.
  • Moving mail: choose Move to… and pick the folder. To take mail out, move it somewhere else.
  • Renaming and reordering: in Settings → Folders. Names can be up to 40 characters, and can't match another folder or a built-in one like Inbox.
  • Deleting: in Settings → Folders. The folder's mail moves to Archive, or to your inbox if you don't have Archive. Nothing is deleted.

Replies to a conversation you've filed arrive in your inbox, as they do for archived mail. Mail in your folders counts towards your storage.

If your paid plan ends, your folders stay readable, and you can move mail out, rename them or delete them. You can't move anything in or make new ones.

Snoozing

Snooze a conversation in your inbox, archive or one of your folders to put it out of sight until you need it. Choose Snooze, then pick a time, like tomorrow morning, or set your own up to a year ahead.

At that time it comes back to the top of your inbox, marked unread. If someone replies before then, it comes back straight away. To bring it back early, open it in Snoozed and move it to your inbox.

Snoozed mail counts towards your storage like mail in your inbox.

Trash

Mail in the trash is deleted for good after 30 days. It counts towards your storage until then.

Storage on a free plan

You get 25 MB for mail and 10 MB for Screening. When either is full, the oldest mail in it is deleted to make room for new mail. Drafts are never deleted this way, and nor is mail kept in Archive or your own folders from when you paid.

Incoming emails can be up to 5 MB, or 2 MB for mail waiting in Screening. Bigger ones are returned to the sender.

Storage on a paid plan

You get 10 GB, and nothing is deleted to make room. Once it's full, new mail is returned to the sender until you free up space. Incoming emails can be up to 25 MB.

See how much you're using in Settings → Account.
