## Do companies know they’re getting an alias?

No. An alias is a normal email address. It works for sign-ups, receipts and password resets like any other.

## Can I reply from an alias?

Yes. Replies go out from the alias the email came to, so the company only ever sees the address they already have. Each alias can send under its own name, or none at all.

## What happens when I block an alias?

Mail to it is thrown away without the sender knowing. You only see who wrote and the subject, so you know what you're missing. You can also replace it with a fresh alias for the same company. The old one is blocked straight away, so give the company the new one.

## Is there a free plan?

Yes. Free accounts get 10 aliases and 25 MB for mail, with the oldest deleted to make room. You can email people who have emailed you first, up to 10 a day. Paying adds an archive, your own folders, 10 GB of storage, emailing anyone and 10 custom aliases with names you choose.

## Is there an app?

Yellowbird installs from your browser, no app store needed. In Chrome or Edge, choose **Install** when Yellowbird offers it, or use the install button in the address bar. On iPhone and iPad, open it in Safari, tap **Share**, then **Add to Home Screen**.

## Can you read my mail?

We could, because it isn't end-to-end encrypted, but we only look when you ask us to or a court order requires it. Our [security page](/security) explains where your mail is stored and who can see it.

## Does Yellowbird read my mail with AI?

Only for the [daily digest](/help/notifications#daily-digest), only on a paid plan, and only if you turn it on. It uses the subjects and previews of new mail in your inbox, never mail from people waiting in Screening or from blocked senders.

## What if I lose my phone?

Sign in on another device with one of your backup codes, then add a new passkey in Settings. Each code works once.
